An abiding commitment to social justice has steered Toni Harp’s career in public service.
On January 1, 2014, Toni Nathaniel Harp was sworn in as the first female Mayor of the City of New Haven, CT. Prior to being the mayor, she was a State Senator serving ten terms as the Connecticut State Senator from the 10th Senatorial District towns of New Haven and West Haven, CT.
As a State Senator, Toni Harp received many awards and recognition for her contributions to sound and progressive public policy. Senator Harp served as Deputy President Pro Tempore of the Senate and the Senate Chair of the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee. Senator Harp was also the Vice-Chair of the Aging Committee, and member of the Education, Executive and Legislative Nominations and Legislative Management Committees. She also chaired the Medical Assistance Program oversight Committee.
Toni Harp has lived in New Haven for more than 25 years. She was the Homeless Service Director at the Cornell Scott Hill Health Center. Toni Harp is the proud mother of three accomplished children.
